Patron saints
Catholic Saints to Pray To
55 saints and titles of Our Lady, arranged by the need people bring to them. Each page gives the saint's story, feast day, what they are patron of and why, a prayer with its source, and when to pray a novena.
Why Catholics ask the saints to pray for them
Catholics do not pray to the saints instead of God. They ask the saints to pray with them and for them, the way you would ask a friend. The Catechism puts it plainly: the saints “do not cease to intercede for us with the Father” (CCC 956). A patron saint is simply the friend in heaven whose own life touched the trouble you are in now.
Some patronages were declared by a pope; most grew from centuries of people praying at a shrine and being heard. Every page below says which is which, and names its sources.
